How This EI / Lean / Custom Calculator Works

Weekly ppm targets are split across your chosen number of macro/micro doses. We convert ppm to mg/L, then to grams of salts (KNO₃, KH₂PO₄, K₂SO₄, MgSO₄·7H₂O) and optionally to mL from stock based on your bottle recipes. Potassium supplied by nitrate and phosphate sources is credited first; any shortfall to your K target is topped up with K₂SO₄.

Typical Presets

  • EI (high growth): NO₃ 20–30, PO₄ 3, K 20–30, Mg ~5, Fe 0.5 ppm/week; 50% weekly WC.
  • Lean (low-moderate): NO₃ 7–10, PO₄ 0.7–1, K 10–15, Mg ~2, Fe 0.15–0.2 ppm/week.

Best Practices

  • Consistency: Dose macros and micros on alternate days; avoid mixing in the same bottle.
  • Water changes: Reset accumulation weekly; dose macros right after WC for steady levels.
  • Balance: Match light and CO₂ to nutrients. High light without CO₂ invites algae.
  • Verification: Use reliable test kits sparingly; observe plant growth and algae as primary signals.

FAQs — EI vs Lean, Grams vs mL, and K from Salts

Do I still need K₂SO₄ with EI?

Often not—K from KNO₃ and KH₂PO₄ can meet the K target. This tool only adds K₂SO₄ when needed.

Can I combine all macros in one bottle?

Yes, macros can be combined; micros should be separate. This tool expects per-salt stock concentrations to compute mL per dose.

How accurate is the weekly trend chart?

It’s an estimate using your water change and daily uptake settings to visualize peaks/troughs. Fine-tune with observations.
